Call of Duty DMZ 2.0: Leaks, potential release date, and expected features

I'm ready to jump back in!

When DMZ mode first dropped into Warzone 2.0, it sent shockwaves through the CoD community, earning a reputation as one of the most intense experiences yet. Although it stopped receiving updates, there is still hope as more rumors surround DMZ 2.0. Here’s everything we know so far.

Call of Duty DMZ 2.0 potential release date, explained

There’s been a lot of buzz about a Modern Warfare 4 2026 release amongst the Call of Duty community. Since DMZ was previously introduced in the last MW entry, this mode may return around this time, bringing back its distinct objective-based sandbox experience. Notable CoD leaker The Ghost of Hope also indicates a 2026 release for DMZ, where it will be featured again as the third game mode in Modern Warfare.

While a 2025 debut could be possible, the chances are pretty low. Most signs point to a Black Ops 2 sequel, a series that typically includes Zombies as its third mode. Infinity Ward, the masterminds behind DMZ, should be at the forefront by 2026, seemingly hinting at the DMZ 2.0’s debut.

All CoD DMZ 2.0 leaks and features

With all the lingering questions surrounding DMZ 2.0, one of the biggest is whether it will stick with the familiar PvP experience or take the gameplay in an entirely new direction. According to The Ghost of Hope, the team behind the mode is torn between PvP and PvE due to the balance issues of the original DMZ. When the mode was in its heyday, solo play was nearly impossible, as other teams would band together and take out helpless players. I, too, had trouble hopping into DMZ because of this, which felt absolutely brutal with the additional AI enemies.

If DMZ ends up in PvE territory, it will probably play out like Modern Warfare 3’s Zombies mode, where all players can take on objectives together. There’s no telling which direction it would go, but I hope there’s a way to balance the two. Or, maybe there could be an Offline mode for those who want to avoid PvP and stick to the main tasks.

Leaks also suggest DMZ will have its own map and dedicated version of a Warzone engine. That means it will have a unique server separate from Warzone, differing from Modern Warfare 2’s free-to-play experience. It could potentially have a paywall requiring an MW4 purchase, but we won’t know for sure until more details are released.

One rumor suggests that the new DMZ map will be called “Tumen” after a file leaked with this title. It may involve real-life locations in India or China; however, it could merely be a codename that doesn’t include these areas. The mode will likely consist of a Warzone-based Ground War map, offering much larger locations than its predecessor.

Last but not least is a Dog Tag leak regarding an “unseen DMZ menu” from BO6 Season 2 Reloaded. This could be the first sneak peek of this mode, considering that Dog Tags were primarily associated with DMZ.

Alternatively, it could be a new feature for Black Ops 6 and Warzone‘s Season 3 launch. Given that Verdansk is returning, it wouldn’t be that much of a stretch for a Dog Tag comeback.
