Minecraft’s first major update of 2025, Spring to Life, is arriving soon. We initially heard about it in early January, with the March Minecraft Live livestream revealing the update’s name and feature list. Let’s dive deep into Spring to Life’s release date and upcoming additions.

When is Minecraft’s Spring to Life update releasing?

The Spring to Life update will officially arrive in Minecraft starting March 25, 2025. Mojang released snapshots for the update in January 2025, introducing new cow variants, a firefly bush, and new desert sounds. Spring to Life’s full March 25 release lets us experience these features alongside additions that weren’t known until now.

Minecraft’s Spring to Life update’s main purpose is to build on existing biomes and make them more unique and fun to explore. While you won’t find any new mob types yet, we’ll encounter Warm and Cold animal varieties, revamped spawn egg textures, and several new blocks to improve the ambiance of the Overworld’s biomes. Here’s a complete list of features coming to the Spring to Life update.

New blocks

  • Leaf Litter, including unique block sounds
  • Wildflowers
  • Cactus flowers
  • New bushes, including a Firefly bush with unique block sounds
  • Short and tall Dry Grass blocks

New and changed mobs

  • Warm and Cold pig variants
  • Warm and Cold cow variants
  • Warm and Cold chicken variants
  • Cartographer villagers now sell more map types.
  • Wandering traders have improved prices and more variety in their items.
  • Sheep wool colors now depend on their spawn biome.
  • Wolves now have unique sound personalities.
  • Camels can now spawn in deserts.

New items

  • Blue and Brown eggs from Warm and Cold chickens
  • Overhauled Spawn Eggs textures

Miscellaneous features

  • Lodestone has a new crafting recipe.
  • Trees now have falling leaf particles.
  • You can find fallen trees in the Overworld.
  • Firefly particles appear at night around the Overworld, particularly near Firefly bushes.
  • Desert biomes now have extra sand and wind sounds.

Although one of Minecraft Live’s main features was the Ghastling, including its navigation capabilities and adorableness, we’re not getting this new mob in the Spring to Life update. Instead, it’ll arrive in the game’s Summer update alongside the Dried Ghast block and a harness for ghast riding. The release date for the Summer update is unknown at the time of writing this.
